Carved Frog from Taqua Nut

While this frog's shape echoes the tagua nut itself, through the skills of its creator -- its bumpy skin, webbed feet, long legs, and expressive eyes -- it is ultimately claims its own reptilian identity. The byproducts of Palm trees come in many forms, one being the “tagua" nuts – each roughly 2" long – so closely resemble the color of an elephant’s tusk, they have been used as a renewable replacement for ivory carving worldwide. These rainforest seeds are extremely dense. We're happy to bring you exquisite examples of such pieces from Bali: nature's beauty enhanced by human artistry. Hand carved in the village of Tampaksiring, Bali.
