Balinese Folk Art Coin Couple
This fabulous pair of vintage Balinese ceremonial folk art sculptures from Indonesia are made of carved wood and old Asian coins, known as kepeng coins, all knitted together. The kepeng coin date back to the 7th century, first used as currency and later in works of art. Traditionally, the coins themselves were believed to have certain magical properties and were used in celebrations such as weddings and also to decorate temples.
Our wedding couple stand tall upon wooden stands painted gold and green interspersed with more coins and have carved wooden feet and hands with painted red nails at the end of very slender long fingers. With stylize painted faces and elegant headdresses, bright red lips and long flowing locks of coin hair behind, they are a timeless age; and yet even though they are an older sculpture, they are in very good condition. The design and construction of these pieces is very intricate, truly works of art to be prominently display.
Approximately 20" H x 5" W x 5" L.
