Balinese Barong in miniature
A representation of a Barong creature, this a folk-art sculpture is created with goat hair, faux gold paint, mirror, tiny temple umbrellas, carved wood, and various other materials to capture the energy of the Barong in miniature. Barong is a lion-like creature and character in the mythology of Bali, Indonesia. He is the king of the good spirits, the symbol of health and good fortune, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen in the mythological traditions of Bali. Barong confronts Rangda in magical combat featured in the Barong dance to represent the eternal battle between good and evil. Barong is brought to life by two dancers encased in an ornately decorated harness.
