Batik Wooden Serving Utensils
A beautiful addition to your batik wood tabletop collection, for serving rice or any delicious Indonesian foods you whip up. Carved to form first, each pair is then batiked by talented artisans in Yogyakarta, Java using a traditional tool called a "canting" to apply wax directly on the wood, creating intricate patterns based on ancient Javanese motifs. The individual pieces are layered with wax and dye and finally boiled quickly to remove the wax from the surface, revealing a detailed and mesmerizing design. To complete each, they are vanished with a food safe seal.
To preserve the wood, it is best to wash with warm water and soap by hand and dry with a soft towel. Since the artisan crafts each piece by hand, please expect slight differences in the natural hues, designs and grains of the woods.
