Vintage Batak Bamboo Medicine Container & Calendar

This Vintage Batak Bamboo Medicine Container from the island of Lombok and the Batak tribal culture is a storage vessel for various herbs, medicines and ritual potions. The complex Batak design etched on the surface of the bamboo is a calendar that marks significant days for the use and non-use of the tube's contents. The container features carvings of classic Batak talismanic ancestral figures riding the legendary Naga or Singa, a protective image of the dragon deity of the Batak people. A rare piece to come by, fabulous addition to a collector of primitive tribal art.
