The Nirvana Buddha or Reclining Buddha

This carved wooden statue depicts the Buddha in the last moments of life on earth, prior to the Buddha dying one last time before entering Nirvana. This reclining or sleeping pose of Buddha is one of the most poignant ones, not tragic at all. In fact, it is supposed to be an encouragement to people for seeking internal harmony. The primitive style complements the relaxed mindset of the Nirvana Buddha, with a whitewashed on top of its patterned sarong and peaceful existence.
